The American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE Expo is geared toward patients, caregivers and healthcare providers. The event is an opportunity to learn more about the latest trends, resources and research surrounding lung cancer, COPD and other chronic lung diseases. Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Department of Radiology was a local sponsor of the recent event and hosted an information table.

Radiology Program Manager for Diagnostic X-Ray, Nuclear Medicine, CT, Ultrasound, MRI and Interventional Radiology/ Interventional Nephrology Rakesh Kannan, CT Supervisor Jessica Lorusso and Radiology Project Coordinator Sabrina Klein represented the department at the event. “We were able to provide information about lung cancer screening, and our program specifically, to both patients/caregivers and providers,” says Klein. “It was a great opportunity for us to share the work we do and promote the importance of lung cancer screening.”

The group had the opportunity to share with both patients/caregivers and providers the results of BWFH’s Lung Cancer Screening Program. Klein says, “This year we identified one out of every 55 exams we completed as a cancer patient. The majority of these patients had never been screened before. It is so important to catch it early. Being able to interact with pulmonary and primary care providers, as well as caregivers and patient advocates, gave us a unique opportunity to reach out and spread this message.”
