BWFH welcomes new Project Manager for Patient Safety

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital recently welcomed Heer Patel in the role of Project Manager for Patient Safety.

Patel is a 2021 graduate of UMass Lowell where she earned her bachelor of science degree in Public Health. She first came to BWFH as an intern the summer after graduation. She was then offered a job as Lead Operations Coordinator in the Department of Nursing, a role she held until accepting the position as Project Manager for Patient Safety. She is currently working toward a master’s degree in Healthcare Management.

Working with Director of Infection Control, Clinical Compliance and Patient Safety Andrea Shellman, MHSA, CPPS, and Director of Risk Management Beth Uhl-Israel, MBA, CPHRM, CPHQ, Patel is now charged with supporting hospital-wide patient safety and quality initiatives. Her primary focus is managing the hospital’s electronic safety reporting system (RL Solutions) and using that data for patient safety improvement initiatives.

“Originally I wanted to be a physician assistant,” says Patel. “But, through my internship, I explored the non-clinical side and discovered an interest in patient safety. Now I am excited to explore the different areas within the hospital that play a role in patient safety.”

Patel says the decision to remain within BWFH was an easy one. “I am still young in my career, but already I have been able to grow here from an internship to Lead Operations Coordinator and now to this role,” she says. “I’ve also gotten to know a lot of the people and the different departments, which is making my transition to patient safety much smoother.”

Outside of work, Patel enjoys the outdoors and spending time with family and friends.
