BWFH welcomes new Manager of Materials Management

Hazel Carleton in action at BWH

Hazel Carleton recently assumed the role of Manager of Materials Management at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital. In this role, she will have oversight of linen distribution and management, mail services and receiving and distribution.

Carleton comes to BWFH from Brigham and Women’s Hospital where she began as Inventory Coordinator nearly 10 years ago. Over the years, she worked her way up, most recently serving as Project Manager for Materials Management.

She jokes that she is the black sheep of the family for pursuing a career in healthcare outside of nursing. Both her mother and her sister are nurses, and both worked at BWFH—her mother in the ICU and her sister as a PCA in the Float Pool while she was in nursing school. “In my role, I support both our patients and our staff, which is very meaningful,” she says. “But my passion is organization and that’s what I like about dealing with product. I like making the shelves look nice but also ensuring our staff have what they need when they need it.”

Carleton was encouraged to apply for the role at BWFH by her mom and sister who both had positive experiences working here. And after just a few days, she expects her experience will be much the same. “Everyone here is so kind and so very welcoming,” she says. “Each day, from just the front door to the elevator, I’m greeted by 10 people!”

Outside of work, Carleton loves to travel and is a mother to two young women—the older a computer engineer and the younger a filmmaker and artist. It was her children’s passions that sparked her interest in conventions focused on anime. “I initially went to support them, but I have found that the people are so kind and I really enjoy the experience,” she says.
