At the Organization of Nurse Leaders (ONL) for the Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Connecticut Fall Meeting, held recently in Worcester, Program Manager for Informatics for Nursing/Patient Care Services Paula Wolski, MSN, RN-BC, and 7 North’s Anh Le, BSN, RN, presented their poster “Use of Mobile Application to Improve Nursing Department Communication” during the exhibit session.

The poster is the result of a pilot project completed at BWFH in late 2018 with the goal of finding a way to communicate broad changes to the nursing staff at BWFH. A pre and post survey was utilized to determine the staff’s willingness to use a mobile application, as well as its ease of use, for these purposes. The results outlined in the poster presentation are overwhelmingly positive.

“Our poster received a lot of traffic at the meeting,” says Wolski. “Many of their questions revolved around whether this was a voluntary process for staff and how it would be operationalized in terms of adding/removing staff from the group. Some inquired about the security component of online communication. Overall, our visitors seemed impressed with our work. One said they thought it was a very innovative way to manage ongoing issues for nursing leaders today.”

For Wolski, sharing her work along side Le was one of the most rewarding parts of the day. “I believe that it is important to share the work that you do as it gives you the opportunity for feedback,” she says. “I was very pleased that Anh was able to share in this experience with me. I hope it helps her grow as an emerging leader within the Department of Nursing.”
