BWFH names new Chief of Psychiatry

Carlos Fernandez-Robles, MD, MBA, will become the next Chief of Psychiatry at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, effective July 1, 2022. He will also serve as Vice Chair for BWFH in the Brigham Department of Psychiatry and as a faculty member in the Brigham and Women’s Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Fernandez-Robles comes to BWFH from Massachusetts General Hospital where he has held several significant positions over the last few years, most recently as the Clinical Director of the Center for Psychiatric Oncology and Behavioral Sciences and Associate Director of the Somatic Therapies Service.

Dr. Fernandez-Robles is a medical graduate of the Universidad Industrial de Santander in Colombia and completed his MBA at Yale School of Management. He has also had executive education training in design thinking and innovation, negotiation skills, business analytics and data strategy. He completed his psychiatry training at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, as well as at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was a Psychosomatic Medicine Fellow. He has extensive academic clinical experience, having held positions in Colombia, Florida, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. He is a respected clinician, leader and educator, and is currently an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He is a fellow of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, is active in the American Psychosocial Oncology Society and is involved in diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives both locally and nationally.

As Chief of Psychiatry, Dr. Fernandez-Robles will lead psychiatry services at BWFH by partnering with BWFH’s medical, nursing and administrative leadership, as part of and in coordination with BWH’s Department of Psychiatry. He will lead the ongoing development and expansion of inpatient, partial, procedural, ambulatory and addiction programs at BWFH, as well as work continuously to improve the educational and academic programs at BWFH, an important training site.

Dr. Fernandez-Robles is specialized in the psychiatric care of patients with severe medical and psychiatric diseases. He has shown himself to be a compassionate leader who is focused on improving patient care, experience and satisfaction through the optimization of clinical operations and the development of innovative care delivery models.
