Amidst ongoing nation-wide blood product shortage, BWFH steps up

The United States continues to experience an urgent blood product shortage. Recently, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham and Women’s Hospital Blood Mobile―the traveling extension of the Kraft Family Blood Donor Center―visited Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, giving employees and members of the community the opportunity to do their part by giving blood to support patients undergoing cancer treatments, accident victims, transplant recipients and more.

At the event, coordinated by Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Community Health and Wellness Program Coordinator Katie Plante, 30 donors volunteered yielding 29 units of blood. Those who donated were treated to a Kraft Family Blood Donor Center lantern as a thank you gift.

“Across the country, blood banks continue to struggle with shortages,” says Plante. “I am grateful for the members of the BWFH community who were willing to take time out of their busy day to give blood, especially on a day we were hit with a nor’easter!”

If you missed your chance to donate blood this time, don’t worry. The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham and Women’s Hospital Blood Mobile will return to BWFH soon! Or you may visit the Kraft Family Blood Donor Center. To schedule an appointment, visit the Kraft Center website or call 617-632-3206.
