Patient Access Services Department welcomes new Schegistrar

The Patient Access Services Department at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital recently welcomed Jose Rodriguez to the team. Rodriguez will serve as the department’s Schegistrar, scheduling the appointments and pre-registering patients. The combined role means patients do not have to stop at Central Registration before their appointments in Special Testing.

Rodriguez has experience working in a physical therapy office, in Brigham and Women’s Hospital’s Rehabilitation Services Department and in a dermatology office at BWH. “I took some time off to care for my father in Puerto Rico, but when I came back I knew I wanted to work in healthcare,” he says. “This is a great role for me. I’m already really familiar with the scheduling system, but I am new to updating referrals and registering patients. I’m looking forward to learning it.”

Rodriguez hopes that learning so much about the administrative side of healthcare will have career benefits in the long run. “I want to learn about every aspect of the healthcare industry and I know this will be a great hospital to grow in,” he says.

Born in Puerto Rico, Rodriguez moved to the United States when he was 7 years old to attend school in Brookline. He spent summers in Puerto Rico where his father still lives. It was his father who introduced him to his favorite hobby: boxing. In addition to boxing competitively, Rodriguez can be found teaching cardio and boxing exercise classes at Boston Boxing and Fitness in Brighton. He also volunteers to train local kids at the gym’s summer youth program.
