Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital nationally recognized for Straight “As” in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization driven by employers and other purchasers of healthcare, today announced the spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades. Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital is one of only 27 hospitals in the United States to be awarded an “A” grade every grading cycle since 2012. For the 19th consecutive time, BWFH was awarded an “A” for achieving the highest national standards in patient safety.

“For all 19 grading cycles, BWFH has demonstrated its commitment to excellence,” says Executive Director of Patient Safety, Quality, Risk, Infection Control, Clinical Compliance and CDI Christi Barney, MSN, RN. “But this year, with all of its challenges, to be named among just 27 hospitals nation-wide who have maintained an A grade since 2012 is a huge honor. Here at BWFH, our caregivers are committed to providing the highest quality healthcare possible each and every day. I am so proud to be able to share this exciting news with our staff and our patients.”

“It’s clear BWFH is on a never-ending quest to keep patients safe through thick and thin,” says Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “This likely saved many lives through the pandemic and prepared for future health emergencies. I thank BWFH for leadership and inspiration in these trying times.”

The Safety Grade assigns letter grades of “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” and “F” to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms. Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,700 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Leapfrog Group’s grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public.
