Elizabeth Chaisson

In 2019, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital Ultrasound Technologist Elizabeth Chaisson ran her first marathon, the Boston Marathon, as a charity runner in support of the Red Cross. This year, she had the opportunity to join the Brigham Stepping Strong Marathon Team. On April 20, she will run in support of the Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation.

“I have always enjoyed running. It’s good stress relief, it’s good exercise and it just makes me feel good in general,” says Chaisson. “I never thought I would run a marathon, but once I ran a half marathon, I wanted to try the full.”

She fulfilled that goal last year, finishing her 26 miles in under 5 hours. “During my first marathon, we got all four seasons of weather. It was muggy to start, then it got really warm and sunny and I ended up getting a sunburn. After Heartbreak Hill it started to downpour and got windy and cold so I was freezing and sunburnt at the same time,” she says of the experience. “But it was awesome! The crowds in Boston are amazing and helped me power through the last miles.”

This year, Chaisson is hoping for slightly better weather. She is also feeling especially motivated by her cause. “Because I work here at BWFH, I know a little about the work done by the Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation and knew I wanted to run for them this year,” she says. “I have seen firsthand the amazing healthcare Brigham Health provides. I am honored to be able to contribute to this growing organization everyday as a sonographer and absolutely love when I am able to make a difference in a patient’s life. Training to run for the 2020 Brigham Stepping Strong Marathon Team has given me the opportunity to expand my Brigham family, and it’s given me the opportunity to help our patients through fundraising for this amazing foundation.”
