Volunteer at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital

Volunteers play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital (BWFH), providing assistance to patients, families, and healthcare professions and helping to make BWFH a warm and friendly hospital. Volunteers reflect the same diversity in age, culture, and lifestyle found among our patients, and represent people from all walks of life including professionals, retirees, and students.

Types of Volunteer Work

Volunteer Services makes an effort to match a person's interests with placements within the hospital that will result in a mutually beneficial experience. Volunteers work in a variety of settings within the hospital including the Gift Shop, Hospital Information Desk, Radiology Department, Thea Stoneman Breast Imaging and Diagnostic Center, Gastroenterology Clinic and Endoscopy Center, Telecommunications, Taiclet Family Center, as Patient Rounds, and more.

Some examples of volunteer assignments include:

  • Ambassador at the Hospital’s main Information Desk greeting and assisting patients and visitors to their destination
  • Cashier in the hospital Gift Shop assisting customers with purchases, pricing merchandise, and maintaining inventory
  • Hospitality Cart Rounder on the inpatient floors providing afternoon refreshments
  • Clerical and administrative support in various hospital departments
  • and more!

Level of Commitment

Volunteers are asked to commit to volunteering four hours a week for a minimum of 100 hours within a one-year time period. Whatever your interests, we will make an effort to find a position that matches your skills, interests, and availability. All volunteers must be comfortable in the hospital setting, sensitive to patient needs, and possess good interpersonal skills.
