Student chaplain gains experience at BWFH
A few days a week, Delaveris works with BWFH's chaplaincy staff in doing patient visits and rounds of the inpatient floors. Delaveris says he helps patients in a variety of scenarios, from simple prayers, to helping those who need to borrow a rosary, to patients dealing with more serious illnesses. "I'm experiencing the role of a chaplain here," he says, "and helping spread awareness that the chaplaincy is here to help others in need."
Delaveris speaks very highly of BWFH's chaplaincy staff and of BWFH. He expresses that it is a very intimate community, and that everyone has been very supportive of him. "I'm certainly grateful for the experience I've had here. I've learned so much and continue to learn more each day," explains Delaveris.
In the future, Delaveris hopes to continue his work with addiction and drug counseling by doing another practicum at an inpatient detoxification center. "I would like to think that ordination to the priesthood is also down the road for me, but I don't want to rush things," he explains, "There's so much I still need to learn and understand about how I can operate as a priest."
