Outpatient psychiatry welcomes Shannon Sorenson, PhD

Shannon Sorenson, PhD, recently joined the Department of Psychiatry at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital. She will provide outpatient cognitive behavioral therapy to patients at BWFH two days per week.

Originally from Montana, Dr. Sorenson earned her bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Neuroscience and Psychology at Lehigh University. She then earned a master’s degree and doctorate in Clinical Psychology at UMass Boston.  

Dr. Sorenson is an expert in third-wave cognitive behavioral therapy interventions including dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness and acceptance-based intervention models. She also provides culturally responsive cognitive behavioral therapy as well as traditional cognitive behavioral therapy interventions.

She says, “I like to think deeply about how people work.”

Dr. Sorenson works with patients with social anxiety, depression and borderline personality disorder. She also has a particular interest in working with the LGBTQ population.

Outside of work, Dr. Sorenson enjoys yoga and going to movies.
