New staff psychiatrist hired at BWFH
Dr. Altagracia Ramirez
Of her postgraduate training at BWFH, Ramirez says, "The Adams House Psychotherapy Fellowship I had at BWFH really changed my life and the direction of my career. I began to understand how much courage it takes for a patient to discuss things that may make them uncomfortable. It really empowered me in this profession."
As a staff psychiatrist, Ramirez will be doing diagnostic evaluations, treatment recommendations, and prescribing medications. Dr. Ramirez will also be working closely with primary care doctors. "My role," she explains, "is primarily medication management, but my main focus is opening up access to treatment for all patients."
Ramirez, who is bilingual and sees Spanish speaking patients at BWFH, learned of the opportunity to return to BWFH in an outpatient capacity and could not resist returning. "I think the clinicians here at BWFH are some of the best I've ever worked with," she explains, "It is also an academically stimulating environment, and everyone is so friendly and quick to help if you look like you need help. To me, that's a very special type of environment for a hospital to possess."
When not working, Ramirez enjoys the outdoors, reading, and trying new foods.
