New Administrative Director of Surgical Services hired at BWFH
Jeffrey Blackwell, MHA
While it was a great experience to work in the fast-paced environment at BWH, he says, "There’s something about BWFH. People here are friendly and truly care about patients and the quality of care that we provide to them every day." He was excited to join the team here because, he says of healthcare today, "So much of the focus is shifting care back into community hospitals. So I wanted to be a part of that movement and really help develop the surgery programs here that make sense to be in a community hospital."
In his new position, Blackwell will focus on the administrative side of perioperative services, including oversight of the administrative functions of the Center for Preoperative evaluation (CPE), surgical scheduling and OR Block Management. In addition, his role will work collaboratively with BWFH perioperative leadership, BWPO departments and BWH surgical services to define cross-campus perioperative strategy and link with BWHC and Partners strategies to develop and expand onsite BWFH surgical programs.
"My role looks at the overall BWFH perioperative experience and serves as a liaison for the various cross-campus groups that utilize surgical services on this campus," says Blackwell. He is charged with collaborating with nursing, surgeons, anesthesia and administration to ensure a welcoming and well prepared environment for surgical providers and patients. "Surgery is really a team effort. There’s not one particular individual that’s able to look over everything. There are so many moving parts and a key measure of success is how well we collaborate to provide the best care for our patients," he says. Blackwell hopes he will be able to help all those moving parts work together more efficiently.
A native of Nebraska, Blackwell has adjusted well to life in Boston. "I enjoy living on the east coast. I like being close to the ocean and the hustle and bustle that is Boston." He also enjoys cycling and plans to spend the summer exploring the bike trails in and around the city.
