I CARE Award recipients work together as a team
I CARE recipients Serge Antoine, Patricia Dumas,
Yvette Conille, and Gwen Anderson
The patient had come to BWFH for a chest X-ray and blood work. They first encountered Serge Antoine, who quickly and cheerfully got the patient through the registration process with no waiting. Then it was off to see Gwen Anderson in Radiology for the X-ray. The patient described Gwen as "on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the best, Gwen is a 10." Anderson’s "infectious positive attitude" really impressed the patient, who was taken with how friendly, smiling, happy, and enthusiastic she was.
When the X-rays were done, Anderson noted the patient still needed blood work, but the lab had already closed for the evening. Wanting to ensure that the patient did not have to return to the hospital the following day, Anderson made a phone call to Phlebotomy and was able to find staff members who could draw the patient's blood and run the needed test. Anderson led the patient back to registration, where they were quickly, and once again, cheerfully checked in by Antoine.
In their letter, the patient was beyond thrilled with the extra effort that BWFH staff were taking to assist him. In Phlebotomy, the patient was assisted by Yvette Conille and Patricia Dumas, both of whom the patient noted were also extremely friendly and accommodating. The whole blood draw process took about five minutes. Working together as a team, these four BWFH employees were able to make the patient "forget how sick they were" for a little while, and helped to make "one very happy customer and patient."
When forwarded the patient's letter to read, Gwen Anderson remarked that "I could not have helped this patient successfully finish out his day without the cooperation of the two wonderful women in the lab and the efficiency of Serge in registration," adding, "I am especially thankful when, even interdepartmentally, we BWFH employees can operate as a team, helping each other to provide our patients memorable and gratifying experiences throughout their whole visit to the hospital."
Do you know a BWFH employee who has gone above and beyond to demonstrate BWFH's I CARE standards? To nominate a fellow colleague for an I CARE Award, please visit http://www.faulkner411.org/. A team of colleagues will personally recognize the employee by presenting them with balloons, a thank you card, and a gift certificate redeemable in the cafeteria or Atrium Cafe. At the end of the year, all I CARE Award recipients will be invited to a reception.
